French flair to-go with Longchamp
Très chic – and made for everyday life. Longchamp bags and accessories embody classic French style while being wonderfully practical. Whether it’s a Longchamp crossbody bag, wallet or backpack, the elegant creations of this French label bring a touch of luxury to daily routines. The brand also draws on decades of savoir-faire: Longchamp is one of France’s most renowned bag makers, and every leather bag reflects deep craftsmanship and experience. The world-famous brand began in 1948 when founder Jean Cassegrain took over a small tobacco shop. He soon expanded the range to include leather-wrapped pipes. Over the years, the focus shifted to leather goods such as wallets, cases and small men’s bags, leading to the first women’s handbag collection in 1971. The name Longchamp comes from a horse racing track on the outskirts of Paris, near a small grain mill. The surname Cassegrain means breaking grain in French (casser le grain) – showcasing the founder’s sense of humour when he named his leather goods business Longchamp. Fittingly, the brand’s iconic logo features a galloping horse and jockey. Still family-owned today, the company continues to pursue exciting collaborations with lifestyle brands, artists and creatives.
A tribute to Parisian style: Longchamp Le Pliage
Often imitated, never matched – the greatest classic from Maison Longchamp, the Le Pliage bag, was launched in 1993. Designed by Philippe Cassegrain, son of the founder, it quickly became a global bestseller. What brought worldwide fame to a simple nylon bag with leather handles and a small flap? Alongside its minimalist and elegant appearance, it impressed with versatility. Thanks to a smart press-stud system, this Longchamp bag folds neatly into a compact square. This folding concept made Le Pliage the most iconic bag model of the Parisian label. The foldable Longchamp bag comes in several sizes and versions, all featuring a simple zip closure. In addition to handbag-sized models, Longchamp also offers travel-ready versions. These are longer in shape and hold between 35 and 50 litres. Various editions provide plenty of variety: the Le Pliage Néo line includes a detachable shoulder strap, while the Cuir models are made of leather – even these leather bags can be folded. Over time, the Le Pliage series has expanded to include backpacks, wallets, cabin trolleys, toiletry bags and other styles such as briefcases.
Product diversity at Longchamp: bags for everyday and travel
The French label offers bags for both women and men. The women’s collection includes shoppers, handbags, shoulder bags and hobo bags. Trendy styles like bucket bags, belt bags and net bags can also be found at Longchamp. The men’s range features briefcases, sling bags, backpacks, bum bags, classic reporter bags and larger crossbody bags. One of the most popular models is the Longchamp crossbody bag with a long flap and rear zip pocket – made of leather, yet designed with an urban, casual feel. That same flair is found in every Longchamp backpack. Whether with a rolltop closure or a classic U-shape, most designs are unisex and suit both female and male fans of the brand. A matching Longchamp wallet is available for every bag model, regardless of whether you’ve chosen a men’s or women’s design. That said, the ladies do have a little more variety: some of Longchamp’s more feminine wallets feature a detachable shoulder chain. Longchamp’s travel range also includes soft luggage and polycarbonate suitcases in various sizes.
